Why This Work?

Why Pollinators?

Pollinators are critical to much of life on Earth because they foster the success of the majority of flowering plants.

By supporting native pollinators, we can foster successful and resilient environments.

This is especially important work in agricultural areas because we rely on pollinators to pollinate most of our food crops. Without pollinators, agricultural yields would plummet, and we would have to execute the tedious work of hand pollination.

Pollinator populations have been decreasing dramatically worldwide, making restoration efforts in the support of native pollinators more critical than ever.

Why Riparian Restoration?

Riparian environments are the zones that border rivers, creeks, and lakes. As transitional zones between interconnected terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, riparian areas are critical habitat. They reduce water temperatures by shading water bodies, filter surface runoff entering the water, and serve as homes and food sources to a wide range of organisms.

Why
Sustainable Agriculture?

Sustainable agriculture involves having as little negative impact on the land as possible while taking only what is necessary. It refers to, in its idealized form, a reciprocal relationship between agricultural production and the existing ecosystem. On White Water Ranch, efforts towards sustainability include fertigation and an all-organic production.
